Internet Predicts Nissan Leaf Beats Chevrolet Volt

According to the wacky world of the interwebs, the Nissan Leaf will be a smashing success. If that doesn’t come true, the Leaf is at least kicking the Chevrolet Volt’s butt: the latest Google trends show that interest in the Leaf (determined by the volume of searches and new articles) is double that of the Volt. And since it may not be very scientific to use Google as the sole determinant of success, the Nissan Leaf Facebook page has about 72,000 fans while that of the Chevrolet Volt only has 24,000 (as of June 27, 2010).

Home Charging Stations And Installation Services To Be Available For Nissan Leaf At Time Of Purchase

When the Nissan Leaf becomes available for purchase in December 2010, customers will be able to charge their zero-emissions electric hatches at home with a home charging station.

The charging station will be available at the sale of each Nissan Leaf and is designed to provide a safe and reliable charge when installed with a connection to a 220-volt line. It will take eight hours to fully charge a Nissan Leaf from a fully discharged state.

But even before fellow Leafers drive the Leaf home, a company called AeroVironment (AV) will offer access to its national network of qualified, licensed electricians who will provide pre-installation home assessment services prior to vehicle delivery. If a customer is set on buying the Leaf and charging it in his/her garage, AV will also provide installation services for the charging stations. In fact, the Nissan-branded home charging stations will be supplied and manufactured by AeroVironment (AV).

“Nissan is committed to bringing zero-emission mobility to the United States, and around the world,” said Carlos Tavares, Chairman, Nissan Americas. “A part of that commitment is delivering a one-stop shop experience for the new car owner, which is why we chose AeroVironment. As a result of our selection, drivers of the Nissan LEAF will be able to charge their vehicles safely overnight at their own homes.”

Advert: Winter Olympics 2010 – Nissan Leaf

Click the image to watch the ad!

Check out this Nissan Leaf ad that ran during the 2010 Winter Olympics. Personally, I would have liked to see more of the Leaf in the commercial. After all, the ad is an entire minute in length but the Leaf only gets ten seconds! Perhaps the goal of this particular ad was to first promote the Nissan brand and then to have let viewers know of the Leaf. If that’s the case, good on you Nissan! Watch the ad after the jump!
